Building Our Foundation

"Foundation" - a word with a number of definitions is described by Dictionary.com as a "prepared ground or base on which some structure rests" and as "an institution financed by a donation or legacy to aid research, education." Your AORN Foundation, the charitable arm of AORN, is committed to fulfilling both of these definitions by focusing on patient safety through funding AORN's necessary programs and services.

Just as a home builder goes through some basic steps to build a foundation, the AORN Foundation is consistently working to become the same supportive base for AORN and its members. As a part of AORN, the Foundation shares the same goals of promoting patient safety in the surgical setting by empowering perioperative nurses with education, standards of practice, and peer networking. As the footings of a home's foundation spread the weight of the structure, the AORN Foundation works to support AORN in its goals.

Did you know -

The Foundation is a funding source for AORN's patient safety initiatives, including:

Fire Safety Tool Kit

Patient Safety Supplement

Management Resource Product Line

Annual Leadership Conference

Human Factors Tool Kit

PeriOp 101 online development

Medication Safety Tool Kit

Coming Soon - New revised Correct Site Surgery Tool Kit

Through these types of important initiatives, the AORN Foundation impacts over 43,000 perioperative nurses and the patients they serve on a daily basis. Additionally, the Foundation offers support through scholarships, education, and research grants. Since 2003, more than 2.5 million dollars have been raised for these programs.

To continue offering funding for each of these areas, however, the AORN Foundation needs your help. There are many ways to get involved. Imagine the difference we could make in the lives of perioperative nurses and their patients if every member donated just $12 each month to support the AORN Foundation and its mission. Together we can build a foundation that will continue "supporting nurses who make surgery safe."
