Chapter and State Council Grants
The Chapter and State Council Education Grants are for AORN constituents wishing to enhance perioperative education to all members at the local level. Grants will be made up to $1,000 and must be used for continuing education activities hosted by the local chapter or state council. The purpose of the Education Grants is to provide funding that the chapter/council cannot raise itself.
Grants will be distributed equally per chapter size (15 per year in each category):

Small: 0-50 Members
Medium: 51-150 Members
Intermediate: 151-300 Members
Large: 301+ Members
Application Criteria
- A chapter/council may not be awarded a grant two years in a row.
- A chapter/council must exhibit a financial need for a grant.
- Applications will be received up to the day of the event, but to receive funding by the date of the activity, applications must be postmarked or faxed on or before sixty (60) days prior to the date of activity.
- Activity must be approved for contact hours by one of the following agencies. Proof of approval must accompany the application.
- Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)
- The American Nurses Association (ANA)
- An agency, organization, or educational institution accredited by the American Nurse's Credentialing
- Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC)
- The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN)
- A state nurse's association
- The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN)
- The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), formerly NAACOG
- The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
- A chapter/council may not use the grant funds to send delegates/members to Congress and/or other educational seminars.
- If a speaker(s) for the event is employed by or is representing industry, by granting the chapter/council an education grant, the AORN Foundation has no responsibility for any program content. It neither endorses the information, content, presentation, or accuracy, nor makes any warranty, express or implied, regarding any information provided by said speaker(s).
Required Documentation
- A complete Education Grant Application (located in supporting documents to the left), including description of activity and proposed budget.
- A one-page, typed statement describing activity, speakers involved, how this educational activity will enhance the perioperative nursing practice of your members, how they will apply the information gained, and how you plan to use the grant money, if awarded.
- If you will be using these funds to help defray speaker costs, please list speaker(s) name(s) and business affiliation.
- Estimated budget outline (income from registration and/or exhibitors, expenses, sponsor support). Please provide as much detail as possible so that we can assess your need more clearly.
- Copy of activity education approval for contact hours (i.e. copy of letter or email stating approval). *Proof of evidence that this activity has been approved must be included with application. If you are awaiting approval by the AORN Approval Department, please include this information and send an email to Ellen Reeder requesting that she inform the AORN Foundation once the activity is approved.
- Provide a copy of the event marketing materials.
