CDC to survey for MRSA prevention
Participating hospitals that report infection data to the federal
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be surveyed
to determine adherence to the agency's recommended strategies for
reducing transmission of multidrug-resistant infections, including
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). CDC's
guidelines were issued in October 2006.
As part of its electronic Active Bacterial Core Surveillance System, CDC will conduct an initial baseline survey, then two follow-up surveys to determine whether changes in infection-control practices correlate with changes in rates of MRSA infections. The survey will also track data on facility-based MRSA prevention policies and procedures that may affect MRSA infection rates. Read more information on the Active Bacterial Core Surveillance System.
