In January, the AORN Foundation will launch a new online application process for scholarship awards. Taking the procedures online will allow applicants to navigate a user-friendly Web application, check its status at any time and receive prompt service, says Heidi Arsenault, AORN Foundation development coordinator.

"Applying for a scholarship through AORN Foundation will now be easier, with minimal paperwork and increased privacy for applicants' personal information," Arsenault added.

Since 1991, the AORN Foundation has provided educational assistance funds through the AORN Scholarship Committee for students enrolled in nursing schools and to perioperative nurses pursuing bachelors, masters or doctoral degrees.

Scholarship awards vary year to year but can range from $500-$5,000. The deadline to apply for the 2008-2009 academic year is June 15, 2008. The funding period for this academic year will cover classes starting on or after July 1, 2008, and on or before June 1, 2009.
