ELECTION STATEMENT.We consistently face daily challenges and opportunities in a rapidly evolving health care system, as perioperative nurses.
As practitioners, many of us struggle to provide the nursing care we know is right because of multiple constraints. But when we join efforts, we have the opportunity to change the world. Making a difference is why AORN exists. This opportunity to advance our profession is why we are willing to dedicate our time and talents and is why I am running for election.
Although nursing is faced with many external issues, some of the most important issues are domestic to our profession. AORN has had the responsibility of being the voice for a large number of nurses and the accountability of representing the true concerns of those nurses. I intend to represent the knowledgeable and judicious perioperative nurse, with the intent of acting as their advocate, representing the grassroots nurse in the boardroom with our
partners and legislators.
AORN charts the course to preserve our values of excellence in professional practice. Accomplishing this charge will allow future generations of perioperative nurses to better provide the care we became nurses to provide. While charting this course, we need leaders who understand all of our interests and needs and not just the interests of a few or the most vocal.
Patient safety, managing technological advances, legislative matters, and evidence based practice/research are at the crux of our profession. Like you, I want leaders who are concerned about my role in professional practice, taking all things into perspective.
We depend upon the leadership of AORN, as it has a strong legacy of establishing and protecting high standards for perioperative nursing. I am passionate about providing perioperative nurses with a solid foundation for practice, one that will allow them to adapt to the rapidly-changing technology in our advanced clinical settings. Not only do I want AORN to provide the road for nurses to travel to their destination, I want the membership to know how that road was built and how to use it to its full capacity.
I will serve the interest of the perioperative nurse and our Association in guiding the development of perioperative education, nursing research, and legislative policies with insight, enthusiasm, and thoughtful dedication.
