ELECTION STATEMENT. Karen Kaiser Clark once said, "Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely." In today's rapidly changing health care environment, our opportunities to grow as perioperative nurses and as an organization are endless. We must continue to build on our reputation as the authority for patient and staff safety as we address the challenges facing our profession. Of particular concern to me is the issue of recruitment and engagement of the next generation into our profession and organization. We must create new avenues for member involvement, networking, mentoring, and accessing information while strengthening our chapters and specialty assemblies. We must be proactive in promoting workplace safety, mandating one nurse for every patient, advocating for our patients and profession through our grassroots network, and ensuring the continued growth of our organization through visionary leadership.

As your representative on the Nominating Committee, I pledge to bring my passion for perioperative nursing and the success of this organization as I work to identify leaders who will strategically and responsibly navigate AORN. It is imperative that our leaders listen to the needs of our members and develop relevant resources that will assist perioperative nurses in their role as patient advocates. As a Gen Xer who has experienced professional and personal growth through my AORN activity, I look forward to identifying leaders, such as those who have mentored and inspired me. I ask for the privilege of serving you on the Nominating Committee as we strive for the continued growth of our organization.
