ELECTION STATEMENT. Over the years, we have accepted challenges and opportunities resulting in significant changes in perioperative nursing. Knowledge and past successes have served us well to meet the challenges in today's health care; we did not believe that the way we worked yesterday was the best way to work tomorrow. We recognized inevitable change and rose to the challenge to provide excellence in our practice. Aristotle wrote, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." As an Association, we are recognized as being the preeminent organization that sets the standards for surgical care. We have earned this notoriety because we have worked relentlessly to prepare for the challenges that perioperative nurses are faced with daily; we have addressed practice issues that our membership has identified, and we have risen to the challenge of the medical community to set the standards for the delivery of safe patient care and safety in our workplace.

I have demonstrated my passion and commitment to patient care and our Association's values. By serving both at the chapter and national level, I have established a base on which to fulfill the responsibilities of a Board position. These opportunities rekindled my love for nursing and taught me valuable lessons on leadership. I have the knowledge and experience to be your voice on the Board. I welcome the opportunity to serve with this unique group
who work diligently to preserve AORN's status as the organization that promotes excellence.
