ELECTION STATEMENT. Success in today's competitive health care environment requires action, involvement, and collaboration. While AORN's history is respected and honored, we must continue to evolve as an Association to achieve desired outcomes our profession and patients deserve. Under my leadership, AORN will focus on increasing value to our members, our practice, and our profession. When those objectives are met, AORN will experience growth and increased power and influence.

As President, I will ensure that our perioperative practice is advanced through nursing research and the continued development of the Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS). It is by articulating, communicating, and facilitating a clear understanding of perioperative interventions and their outcomes that we will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, quality care.

My work in Washington, DC, staffing former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, has allowed me to gain access and develop relationships with many of the highest ranking government and private health care executives in this country. These
relationships I have built are crucial for AORN's future success in protecting our patients and perioperative practice. As a profession, we must never underestimate or underemphasize our position in the health care arena and must leverage our influence through cultivating relationships with the right agencies, associations, and politicians.

AORN must be a catalyst for change, ensuring that current and future trends are being addressed in relation to generational and aging workforce, nursing shortage, workplace and patient safety, quality, advocacy, and technology. Through strategic planning and collaborative relationships, we will determine the
best solutions for advancement of our perioperative profession.

My proven leadership inside and outside of AORN, along with my clinical and financial expertise, makes me the strongest candidate to manage and grow AORN's $20 million budget. I will ensure that our Association creates valuable and timely resources for our members so that we will continue to be the indispensable
resource for perioperative nursing practice.

Our Association has the challenge to move beyond the threats we face every day and to build a vision for the future that members can believe in and work toward. As your President, I am prepared for the responsibility of leading our perioperative nursing profession. I have developed and refined the relationships and skills required to direct AORN to fulfill our Association's potential. Together, we must invent and shape our future, and I ask for your
vote and support as we embark on this journey.
