ELECTION STATEMENT. Many changes are taking place in AORN-positive changes that are resulting in safer patient care. Our organization is developing strong relationships with many health care professionals. However, there is one more group that we need to embrace. Every member of AORN is in some way responsible for instrument processing and sterilization. Due to technological changes, now more than ever, for our patients' safety, AORN needs an enhanced relationship and a stronger voice with the sterile processing profession. The Sterile Processing/Materials Management Specialty Assembly is a huge step toward building that relationship.

My experiences on national committees, writing for publications, public speaking, and serving as president of the American Society for Healthcare Central Services Professionals has given me the skills to work with a diverse group of people in many global settings. I am good at building consensus, strategic planning association governances. I am extremely energetic, outgoing, loyal, and reliable.

Being on the Nominating Committee for the last two years has given me insights on the performance expectations and time commitments demanded of the Board of Directors. I understand the roles and challenges of the Board, and I am prepared to take on that task. So, what sets me apart for other potential candidates? Simply put, it is my sterile processing expertise as well as my national and international exposure in perioperative services. With your vote and my dedication to perioperative nursing, I can help make that critical connection for our patients' safety sake.
