Marketing Communications Manager, Member Recruitment and Retention

Position summary
The Marketing Communications Manager for Membership Recruitment and Retention will have a leadership role in the development, implementation and evaluation of communication plans and promotional tactics to effectively recruit and retain both individual and facility/group membership.  Will also be responsible for forecasting and attaining membership recruitment and retention targets each year.  Matrix management and teamwork skills needed to work with Member Services, Product and Event Marketing, Sales, Finance, IT, and Production and Design departments. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of communications plans and activities to recruit and retain individual and facility package membership, including advertising, marketing collateral, direct mail, PR, and e-marketing.
  • Plans and manages membership loyalty and retention programs that enhance member experience with AORN.
  • Collaborates with Director of Membership to develop and execute campaign strategies and programs that showcase member value.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of membership campaigns, membership categories, fee structures, member benefits, and policies relating to acquisition of new members.  Tracks ROI and other key marketing measurements, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for attaining membership targets.
  • Responsible for targeting new areas for membership growth and market segmentation.
  • Writes original copy for membership promotional and collateral materials. Must be able to integrate AORN brand, value proposition and offerings into compelling communications to potential and existing members.
  • Works with member services team to regularly communicate with chapter leaders about membership activities and ways to recruit and retain members locally.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of membership surveys to understand marketing messages required for recruitment.  Provides research analysis to product development teams as information about member and non-member needs is gleaned from surveys.
  • Actively seeks out updates and feedback from other AORN departments to gain information about new programs, activities and happenings to ensure membership messages are current and fresh.
  • Maintains relationships with outside vendors who produce AORN affinity program materials.
  • Responsible for developing and managing membership marketing budgets and forecasts.
  • Works with IT staff on membership database.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with marketing or business concentration. 
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of membership experience at a professional association/society. Experience in a health care organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in developing and retaining membership and increasing user loyalty for a professional association.
  • Marketing communications experience required, including advertising, direct mail, web/e-marketing, and public relations.
  • Proven success in achieving revenue growth and member related retention objectives.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Diplomatic, energetic, self-motivated, organized, creative, and flexible.
  • Ability to work under pressure in order to meet strict deadlines.

Working Conditions
Works at a desk in a non-smoking office environment using telephone, computer, copy machine, and related business equipment. Attendance at scheduled meetings as required. Ability to travel as needed to support Marketing and Association functions as well as market research.
