POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting into the Vice President of Business Development and Segments, this is a highly visible position that involves the creation, execution and management of an integrated marketing plan that assists in growing AORN’s revenues for the products and services offered to membership, industry, and health care organizations (AORN’s three business segments). Focus will be on all aspects of marketing (product, pricing, promotion and distribution channels) for these segments, as well as addressing the needs of specific products and services, such as the organization’s national convention (top 150 convention in the country), the Journal (a top five national nursing publication), books (including the nationally renowned recommended standards and practices) and various educational webinars, events and materials. In addition to mentoring and overseeing the work of the marketing staff members, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for producing marketing materials as appropriate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates the overall marketing strategic vision to promote AORN as the industry leader in clinical education and practice support for the perioperatve professional.
- Creates an integrated marketing plan for all three segments, including major products and services.
- Utilizes strong skills in leadership and management and expert knowledge of current marketing principles (product, pricing, promotion and distribution) to develop and lead a professional marketing team.
- Applies branding principles/strategies across the organization which includes multiple product lines and market segments.
- Applies knowledge of product development to assist line of business leaders in vetting new product concepts and bringing concepts to development and launch.
- Assists lines of businesses with establishing product and/or market segment pricing strategies.
- Works closely with the VP to enhance the use of the AORN website as a benefit to all customers (nurses, industry partners and healthcare organizations) and promotional venue for AORN products/services.
- Assists with the development of needs assessments and surveys to stay informed of customer needs.
- Continues to identify new processes to assist marketing team to be successful. For example, implement new source coding and e-mail list building processes to improve marketing project outcomes.
- Works as a business partner with the segment directors and line of business directors in helping to achieve their strategic and financial goals.
- Creates quarterly and annual key indicator reports relating to the various lines of business. For example market share, revenue targets, product usage and website hits.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business and/or Marketing; advanced degree preferred (MBA).
- 5+ years experience in health care marketing, with a minimum of 4 years experience in a management role is preferred.
- Experience with knowledge of professional associations and membership marketing a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring and developing staff.
- Sound knowledge of marketing best practices.
- Experience with a CRM initiative and a commitment to using data to communicate the right message, to the right customer, at the right time.
- Demonstrated “out of the box” thinking that can be translated into practical application to help marketing teams achieve goals.
- Solid understanding of how to work with and build consensus among both internal staff and volunteer leadership. This position requires a person who encourages and supports collaboration between teams.
- A strong communicator with the ability to communicate with all levels within an organization, and ability to use those communication skills to give advice and support and involve employees in decisions and outcomes.
- Willingness to ‘jump in’ and be hands on with projects when staff needs practical help.
- A goal-setter who establishes metrics for job performance, based on overall organizational goals, and manages to established expectations.
- Experience working with staff in product development.
- Experience writing marketing plans.
- Ability to demonstrate and hold others accountable for organizational values of: communication, quality, innovation and collaboration.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Non-smoking office environment, using a computer, telephone and other office equipment daily. Ability to travel to Association events including the AORN annual Congress. Travel expected to be less than 15%.
