NEW AWARD CATEGORIES FOR 2009
The AORN Board of Directors has approved four (4) new award categories as recommended by the Awards Committee. These awards recognize accomplishments in other AORN activities apart from the traditional chapter award model and the long-standing individual award categories.
Outstanding Achievement in Public Policy Advocacy
This award recognizes a current AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in public policy advocacy contributing to the advancement of perioperative patient care and safety.
Outstanding Achievement in Specialty Assembly Leadership
This award recognizes a current member of AORN and their Specialty Assembly who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in guiding and developing their Specialty Assembly. In addition, the member must be involved in mentoring and developing future leaders for AORN within the Specialty Assembly.
Outstanding Achievement in State Council Leadership
This award recognizes a current member of AORN and their State Council who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in guiding and developing their State Council.
Extended Service Award
This award recognizes an AORN member with extended service and commitment to AORN at the local chapter level, with uninterrupted, loyal and long-standing membership in AORN. It also recognizes a person who has recruited new members, assisted in retaining members, mentored new chapter members, and served in a variety of positions to strengthen their chapter. Long-standing membership is defined as fifteen (15) or more consecutive years.
*Different award category than Jerry G. Peers Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing.
ADDITIONAL AWARD CATEGORIES
Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing
The highest honor bestowed by AORN recognizes an AORN member's overall contributions to practice, education, and research. Nominee's accomplishments must have had global implications for perioperative nursing.
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management
This award recognizes an AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in perioperative nursing management.
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice
This award recognizes an AORN member's outstanding achievement in perioperative clinical practice; the individual must provide and/or direct patient care at least 24 hours per week.
Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship
This award recognizes an AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in mentorship as exhibited by a commitment to strengthen the career development and/or leadership skills of a perioperative nurse colleague.
Next Generation Achievement Award
This award recognizes an AORN member under the age of 40 who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to perioperative nursing and contributions that will have a lasting impact on the future of AORN.
EDUCATION AWARDS
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education
This award recognizes outstanding contributions of a perioperative nurse educator in an academic milieu who furthers perioperative nursing practice for nursing students. Recipients must be AORN members who serve in faculty positions for nursing programs at colleges or universities.
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education
This award recognizes outstanding contributions by a perioperative nurse in clinical education, and the applicant must provide clinical education to perioperative nurses.
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Patient Education
This award recognizes an AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in perioperative patient education.
RESEARCH AWARDS
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Evidence-Based Practice
This award recognizes an AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the application of perioperative clinical research.
Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Research
This award recognizes an AORN member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in perioperative nursing research.
