Important Chapters Information

The 350 local AORN chapters in the United States are the basic building blocks of the Association. Members are introduced to the activities and opportunities offered by AORN at the local chapter level. Networking, education, and leadership development are some of the benefits of being involved at the local chapter level.

AORN's House of Delegates establishes a set of National bylaws, but each chapter tailors its own bylaws to create a unique environment. With those bylaws and individual policies, the chapters become strong advocates for professional development while responding to societal and individual issues at the community level.

When members join AORN, they can select the chapter of their choice; however, if they do not select a specific chapter, one close to the member's home address is automatically assigned. Members can select a different chapter if their personal needs call for an adjustment by calling the AORN Customer Service at 800-755-2676, Ext 1.

Individuals who are not within 50 miles of a local chapter or who do not have regular access to the Internet, are designated as a Member-At-Large (MAL) and are not assigned to a chapter. Retired perioperative nurses are also designated MAL and are not required to join a chapter. We even have a virtual online chapter, eChapter, to meet all of our member needs.

Many of the AORN Chapters have developed their own websites where they post documents and share information with members all around the country. All of the AORN Chapter websites are open for anyone to view.

AORN members have access to a National Directory of Chapters. This directory allows members to find information about chapters in their area. Listings may include information about chapter meetings, dues, and officers.
