AORN Elections:

National elections are held at the annual Congress. Qualified candidates are presented for seven Board positions and five Executive Committee positions, including President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and five Nominating & Leadership Development Committee positions. The Board has the power, authority, and responsibility to manage the affairs of the Association (except to modify actions of the House of Delegates). Elected individuals play a critical role in shaping the future of AORN as they are the leaders who guide AORN in fulfilling its critical mission.

The annual election process:

  • Officers, Board of Directors, and the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee will be elected by electronic ballot, unless a paper ballot is requested, by members in good standing with voting rights as defined in Article III of AORN's bylaws.
  • Self-nominations and/or additional nominations to the ballot will be accepted from August 1st 2010 through January 8th 2011 and need to be submitted online at: Additional Nominations to the Ballot.  This process replaces nominations from the floor during the first House of Delegates.  An AORN staff member and the NLDC will review the nominee's eligibility before placing the candidate on the final ballot.
  • Voting opens on February 22nd 2011 and closes at midnight on March, 23rd 2011.  The voting results will be announced at the end of the last House of Delegates.

Candidates are selected as follows:

  • Five Nominating & Leadership Development Committee members are elected by the delegates - three in even numbered years and two in uneven years, and a chair is elected by the members of the committee.
  • The Nominating & Leadership Development Committee identifies qualified candidates for open positions and advises candidates of the demands of the office they seek.
  • The Nominating & Leadership Development Committee prepares and presents the annual slate of candidates.
