State Council Request for Affiliate Status
Purpose of the Affiliated State Council Agreement
The purpose of the Affiliate State Council Agreement is to define the relationship between the State Councils who choose to be recognized as an “Affiliate” within the formal AORN structure. Each Affiliate State Council must follow the mission and core values of AORN. Below are details regarding the criteria for recognition, benefits, and responsibilities of being an Affiliate State Council.
Criteria for Affiliate State Council Recognition
- Affiliate State Council members shall be registered professional nurses or an individual who is not a registered nurse, who provides or provided direct or indirect perioperative services, and who supports the mission of AORN. All memberships must be active in the AORN National database.
- Affiliate State Councils may have nonvoting members that mirror AORN membership categories.
- Obtain IRS Employee Identification Number (EIN) and comply with all federal and state tax laws.
- Provide EIN number to AORN and letter of incorporation (if applicable by state requirements).
- Sign the Affiliate State Council Agreement (under Supporting Documents, lower left corner), fill out Affiliate State Council Fact Sheet and Officer Update Form, and return all forms to AORN.
- Provide annual reporting of officers and committee chairs to AORN.
- Provide goals and purpose to AORN.
- Communicate legislative and educational activities to AORN.
- Assign a legislative liaison that may also be the acting AORN state legislative coordinator.
Benefits of Being an Affiliate State Council
AORN will provide the following administrative services.
- Maintain Affiliate State Council file and records.
- Offer online venue to update Affiliate State Council officers.
- Distribute chapter president’s names and e-mail addresses for Affiliated State Council leaders quarterly.
- Designate a Board liaison for each Affiliate State Council.
- Receive coordination and legislative support from the AORN Government Affairs department through the state coordinators.
- House Affiliate State Council web site (if applicable).
- Offer the option to include the tagline…“an Affiliate of AORN,” in their formal name or by specific approval from AORN to use the term AORN in the name of the Affiliate State Council. Note: State Councils who are not recognized as an Affiliate State Council do not have permission to use AORN in their formal name or in the tagline associated with their formal name.
- Provide monthly State Council chair conference call – may include non-Affiliate State Councils.
Note: In accordance with AORN’s privacy policy, all chapter membership lists must be obtained through the chapter president. AORN will not release this information.
Affiliate State Councils will…
- Continue autonomy and financial independence, while maintaining their own financial records; and
- Align purpose and goals with AORN’s mission and core values.
