Composition

State councils composed of registered nurses may be recognized as AORN affiliates. Each council will choose its own name which may include the tagline "an affiliate of AORN."

Criteria for Council Recognition as an AORN affiliate:

1. State Councils must submit a written request to AORN Board of Directors requesting affiliate status with a listing of State Council officers.
2. State Councils must report their current tax-exempt status at the time of the request, and annually in designated year-end month.
3. State Council's purpose and goals must be in concert with the mission of AORN.

Purpose

1. The purpose of each State Council is registered with AORN.
2. The purpose of State Council affiliate status is to promote and enhance perioperative nursing endeavors.

Responsibilities

1. Annual reporting of officers and committee chairs.

Fiscal Management

1. AORN charges no administrative fee for affiliate status. State Coordinators can purchase AORN products and services on an as-needed basis.
2. State Councils are financially independent and maintain their own budgets.

Governance

1. State Councils maintain autonomous governance. There is no formal reporting mechanism to National except for annual reporting of officers.
2. The Board shall designate a liaison for each State Council.
