Sharps Safety: It's A Team Effort

Presented by Members of the Clinical Nursing Practice Committee.
Donna A. Ford, MSN, RN-BC, CNOR; Ramon Berguer, MD, FACS; Deborah Spratt, MPA, BSN, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, CRCST, CHL

The risk for percutaneous sharps injury is always present in the OR setting. The OR is unique in that many sharps are handled frequently, by multiple personnel, usually in the restricted space of the sterile field. Therefore, implementing effective sharps safety practices is a team effort and requires the buy-in of everyone on the team. You have the AORN Sharps Safety Tool Kit. Now, how do you get everyone on board?
