Introduction
Radiological procedures are valuable diagnostic and treatment tools; however, the use of radiation in the perioperative setting introduces a variety of safety concerns for both patients and staff. All types of radiation can cause tissue damage and may lead to long-term adverse effects.
Because of these factors, it is important that both patients and staff are protected from unsafe levels of radiation.
Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to provide an overview of the clinical considerations of the use of radiation in the OR, along with guidelines for developing and implementing measures to prevent radiation injury.
Objectives
- Recognize the clinical implications of radiation in the perioperative setting
- Identify strategies to reduce radiological exposure to both staff and patients in the perioperative setting
Course Requirements
To receive 0.8 contact hour for this course, you must achieve mastery of the content and submit an evaluation as instructed at the end of the course. This course contains 18 questions.
