Curriculum
The AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices is updated throughout the year on practices and guidelines affecting nurses. This is a valuable resource that nurses of all levels will use and refer to for topics including patient care, sterilization and disinfection, and equipment and product safety. The AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices can also be purchased as an online eSubscription, individual chapter, book or CD.
The foundation of AORN’s curriculum begins with AORN’s Periop 101: A Core Curriculum™. This online program not only supports new nurses entering the OR for the first time but also experienced nurses who perhaps are coming back to the OR after an extended leave or changing settings. Specialty courses for ambulatory, OB RN Circulators, physician assistants, residents, medical students and advanced practice nurses are available. Periop 101 modules can also be purchased individually to create customized curriculums as well.
The next phase of the curriculum includes Periop Mastery Program. This online program is unique in that it confirms what knowledge the experienced nurse has and what areas they may need to review.
Periop Mastery Program begins by determining what each learner knows and their level of confidence. As a learner progresses through the online modules educational resources are provided to help the learner understand the correct answers to the questions that were answered incorrectly or without confidence. The learner continues through the module until they have achieved mastery which means that their knowledge is correct and their level of confidence is sure.
AORN also supports nurses looking to advance their career with CNOR certification by offering the Prep for CNOR online course. This course provides resources to help focus studying and preparation for the exam.
