OB RN Circulator Course

Health systems are quickly recognizing that the labor and delivery suite is actually an OR. This has escalated the need for the same perioperative education for OB RN circulators as that of perioperative nurses in the main surgical suite. To meet this need, AORN has modified Periop 101: A Core Curriculum™ for the OB RN circulator.

The core content of Periop 101 is included in this program with an obstetrics-specific module developed in collaboration with St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, and other obstetric subject matter experts.

This new module is intended to provide supplemental information for the OB RN circulator who is caring for the obstetric patient in the OB surgical suite. This information builds on the content of the core curriculum. “Special Considerations for the OB RN Circulator” should be accessed after the learner has successfully completed the required 24 modules of the Periop 101: A Core Curriculum. Participants who successfully complete this program will receive 41 nursing contact hours.

If you already have Periop 101: A Core Curriculum at your facility, you can use any of your prepaid student seats for OB nurses or order more seats without having to sign a new agreement.

"To help ensure quality care in the L&D OR suite, education must be comparable to that of the main OR. Encouraging nurses who circulate in the L&D OR suite to participate in the Periop 101 curriculum is one step in the right direction."
