Present a Evidence-Based Practice Research or a Clinical Improvement/Innovation Poster for Congress 2009!

NEWS!
AORN is evaluating the potential of moving to a digital format for posters. If you are ready to submit an abstract proposal, please do so, but check back to this page for updates on the possible format change.

The DEADLINE for poster submissions for Congress 2009 is Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Submissions entered after the date listed above will be considered for the next Congress.

Due to limited space we are not taking submissions for other AORN educational conferences.Poster Displays

AORN is soliciting poster presentations to be displayed at AORN's Congress. Posters are requested from perioperative nurses around the World.

Posters are an effective method of communicating timely and original work in a public forum. They represent ideas in a graphical format, are interactive, and facilitate productive discussion between poster authors and interested colleagues in the perioperative profession.

AORN accepts submissions for posters, with abstracts (brief description of the poster presentation) of between 200 and 250 words, featuring research/evidence-based practice or clinical improvements/innovations. Posters will be on display in a designated area during the conference; the main ideas should be visible from a 4- to 6-foot distance without explanation.

Clinical Improvements / Innovations Posters
Clinical Improvements / Innovations posters describe the successful implementation of creative ideas, resulting in improved productivity, efficiency, and quality, leading to safe patient outcomes. The posters provide the opportunity for peers to evaluate innovations for applicability in their own perioperative settings.

Clinical Improvements / Innovations poster abstracts should include;

  • purpose of the project,
  • brief description of how the group decided to make the improvement or implement the innovation,
  • outcome of the improvement/innovation,
  • implications for perioperative nursing.

The Congress Education Program Planning Committee will review the clinical innovation/improvement abstracts and identify the accepted posters during October.

Research / Evidence-Based Posters
Research / Evidence-Based posters contribute to the understanding of research projects and to our scientific knowledge. Posters displayed at AORN educational conferences offer an opportunity for peers to review recent research studies and evaluate findings for applicability in their own perioperative settings.

Research / Evidence-Based poster abstracts should include;

  • the poster title,
  • purpose of the project,
  • brief description of methodology, results,
  • the implications for perioperative nursing.

The AORN Research Advisory Group reviews the submissions and identifies the accepted posters during October.

GUIDELINES
The contact person for abstracts accepted for display at Congress will be notified by mid-December. At that time, each author must complete a Biographical Data Form and a Conflict of Interest form provided by AORN via e-mail. Accepted abstracts will be listed in the AORN Journal and published in Congress Resources.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Limit abstracts to 250 words, not including name or title of the poster presenter.
  • Identify all presenters with nationally recognized credentials (only) beginning with RN. Do not use periods between letters of credentials.
  • List the author's facility name, city, and state. Do not include the street address.
  • Do not include footnotes.
  • Please use complete sentences and correct spelling.
  • Verify all names of the presenters and their credentials.
  • Use only standard abbreviations and spell out the words on first use before using the abbreviation.

Poster Guidelines

  • Lettering must be quality form.
  • Poster text should be readable from a 4 to 6 foot distance.
  • The presenter's name(s), credential(s), and facility(s) must be listed.

Displaying Posters at Congress

  • Each presenter is responsible for the development, staffing, and removal of his/her poster display materials from the exhibit area.
  • Please plan your poster dimensions and material based on the following information.  Each poster presentation will be provided a cloth-covered tack board 8 feet wide and 4 feet high for display (there is a 1/2 inch metal rim around the entire board).  There will be 4 inch x 22 inch sign with the poster # and title on it that must remain on the board with the poster as well. Push pins are the best way to attach a poster to the boards (Velcro does not stick to the cloth on the board).
  • No tables will be provided, all poster information and materials must be tacked to the board. Presenters can bring business cards to put up with their poster.
  • Presenters must be available to appear at their posters on the Monday of Congress, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Posters may be removed beginning at noon on Thursday and must be removed immediately following the conclusion of all official AORN activities that day.
  • AORN assumes no responsibility for posters remaining in the display area after that time.
  • Any expense associated with poster display(s) will be the responsibility of the poster author(s). AORN does not offer expenses for poster presenters.

AORN will not be responsible for any posters or material left at the convention center.
