Clinical Improvement/Innovation Posters

The Clinical Improvement/Innovation poster submissions should identify clinical improvements and/or innovations that you and your colleagues have initiated.

The posters displayed at Congress will share the actions and ideas that are successful in your facility with perioperative nurses from around the world!

Poster Categories - All abstracts are placed into a category to allow posters with similar topics to be displayed together at Congress. If an abstract fits more than one category, the AORN Nurse Educator will make a determination of the best fit. The current categories are as follows:

Ambulatory, Art of Nursing, Clinical Practice, Clinical Innovation & Technology, Education, Infection Prevention, Informatics, Informational, International, Leadership/Management, Military, Patient Safety, Pediatric, Performance Improvement/Quality Improvement/Patient Outcomes, Recruitment & Retention, Staff Development, and Workplace Safety

NEW Category for 2010! - A new category for 2010 focuses on the Best Practices for Care of the Geriatric Patient Undergoing Surgery or Invasive Procedures. Please share what you’ve learned with your colleagues and be the first to win an excellence award for this new category.

Submissions for a Clinical Improvement/Innovation Poster Abstract must include the following information.

Title - The poster title should be short, but informative of what the poster is about.
Use title case (ie. My Poster for the AORN Congress). Do NOT use all upper or lower case lettering.

Abstract - The abstract should be in paragraph format of no more than 250 words and should include information on the following:

Clinical Issue
Description of Team
Preparation and Planning
Assessment
Implementation
Outcome
Implications for Perioperative Nursing

Poster Acceptance and Judging
All Clinical Improvement/Innovation poster submissions are evaluated by the Congress Education Planning Committee to determine acceptance for display at Congress.

Acceptance letters will be sent only to the contact person for each accepted submission. The Program Coordinator who is managing the poster process will send these letters in early to mid-December.

All required documents are to be returned to the Program Coordinator by the deadline indicated.

Clinical Improvement/Innovation posters will be judged by members of the Congress Education Planning Committee on the Saturday afternoon of Congress. Only posters on display by the stated day and time will be considered for an award. The number of winners of the Poster Award of Excellence is determined each year based on the number of accepted posters.

Poster Evaluation Form for Judging - The 2009 Clinical Improvement/Innovation Poster Evaluation Form is available in the Supporting Documents section of this page. Minor changes are typically made to this form by the committee each year.

Please see the Poster Guidelines page for information on submissions, poster presentations, and to begin the submission process.

Please see the Research/Evidence-Based Practice Poster page for information specific to that category.
