Pre-operative Considerations: Exploring Nursing and Patient Anxiety (Session #3297)
Patients anticipating outpatient surgical procedures experience significant anxiety, resulting in the potential for adverse outcomes and increased expenditures. In this session, management of patient anxiety prior to admission for a surgical procedure and coping mechanisms are discussed in addition to the value of giving pre-operative information to reduce anxiety in elective admissions.

Preventing on-the-job injury and disease should be a priority in the ambulatory care setting. Many factors are related to the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries in the nursing profession. Image-guided functional endoscopic sinus surgery procedures and endoscopic balloon sinus procedures are the latest additions to sinus surgery procedures. This presentation provides information to the perioperative registered nurse on all aspects of these procedures, including preoperative imaging requirements, equipment and instrumentation needs, perioperative care of the patient, and patient outcomes.
