Care of the Older Adult

Information & Resources about the Unique Needs of Older Adults Undergoing Surgery

AORN offers information and resources on the care of older adults undergoing surgery or invasive procedures as part of an effort to promote patient safety and quality care for patients of all ages.

Perioperative nurses increasingly require additional knowledge and skills to meet the unique needs of geriatric patients. The population of Americans over the age of 65 is expected to double from 35 million to 70 million by the year 2030, representing approximately 20% of the population.
