Certificates

Question: How can I get certificates for my contact hours earned for AORN activities? 

AORN Members can print certificates by visiting the Manage Your Education web page and selecting "View your contact hour history now." When prompted, login to the AORN website with your username and password, then put a checkmark by the activities for which you want a certificate. Select "Print Certificate" at the bottom of the page.

Question: Where is my certificate for the home study (or any independent study) that I submitted to AORN? 

The AORN Customer Service department grades the independent studies and can tell you the status of your certificate. View contact information for AORN staff.

Question: What is the difference between a certificate program and a certification? 

A certificate program is a continuing education course designed to enhance your professional knowledge and skills in a specific subject matter. A certification with a credential such as CNOR or CRNFA represents a level of professional achievement and a demonstrated knowledge of clinical competence and practice standards. A credential must be renewed after a certain number of years.

Question: Is the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) affiliated with AORN? 

No. CCI is an independent organization and is not affiliated with AORN.

Question: Does this AORN education activity qualify for contact hours that will count towards my CNOR? 

Only CCI can answer this question since it is the certification organization for the CNOR. CCI is an independent organization and is not affiliated with AORN.

Question: Does AORN offer any certifications? 

AORN offers no certifications. To become CNOR or CRNFA certified, contact CCI. CCI is an independent organization and is not affiliated with AORN.

Question: Does AORN offer review courses for certification? 

Yes. AORN offers the online Preparing for the CNOR Exam review course.

CCI is the group that will answer whether a class, course or a conference will be accepted for recertification. CCI is an independent organization and is not affiliated with AORN.
  

Contact Hours

Question: I attended a course last week. Can I get AORN contact hours for this course?AORN cannot approve contact hours after the course has occurred. The body that accredits AORN to approve contact hours does not allow retroactive approval. The Continuing Education Approval Committee, a peer review committee, must take action on an application for contact hours prior to the date of the activity.

Question: How can I get a list of the contact hours that I have taken through AORN? 

Do you need a record of your contact hours or are you uncertain about the number of AORN-awarded contact hours you have earned? AORN members can use the Contact Hour History application to view the total number of contact hours earned. View your record of contact hours and print off a certificate with a list of all your contact hours.

AORN Members will need to login with a username and password. If you have not previously changed your login information, use your last name as your username and your AORN membership number as your password. Select the "forgotten password" link if you need to have your password sent to you.

If you are not an AORN member, you may call the AORN Customer Service Department at 800-755-2676 to request a certificate.
