AORN/OMU Leadership Academy
Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2009 program.
Become an effective leader and mentor to emerging leaders.
Knowing the principles of leadership and learning to lead are quite distinct. AORN and Owens & Minor University (OMU), in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), bring you a leadership program that will teach you the principles of effective leadership and will provide opportunities to put these principles into practice. Our emphasis will be on learning to lead while developing leaders.
The Academy was developed for the perioperative nursing specialty to support perioperative leadership development in response to the need for career growth and succession planning.
Our unique program is designed to provide you with coaching, mentorship, and collegial interaction as primary drivers for learning. Participation in leadership development activities is intended to develop emerging leaders who practice, train, coach, and serve as models and mentors for others. Twenty-five perioperative nurses will be selected to participate in this intensive, supportive leadership academy.
This three semester program (summer, fall, and winter) consists of webinars, three face-to-face meetings, online assignments and discussions, as well as ongoing communication with assigned mentors. The culmination of the program requires a group developed capstone project. Participants are encouraged to provide a report of the group Capstone project during the 2010 Leadership Conference in (usually held in the month of July).
Our goal is to equip perioperative nurses for all leadership roles.
