Please note: The following pages do not constitute a continuing education course and do not earn contact hours. They provide information and resources for those dealing with the unique needs of older adults undergoing surgery. You will also find links to continuing education courses that do offer credit.
Perioperative nurses increasingly require additional knowledge and skills to meet the particular needs of geriatric patients. The population of Americans over the age of 65 is expected to double from 35 million to 70 million by the year 2030, representing approximately 20 percent of the population. Together, AORN and ConsultGeriRN.org offer valuable information and resources for those interested in quality geriatric care.
ConsultGeriRN.org is the evidence-based geriatric clinical nursing website of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing and the NICHE program (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders). On its website, you will find:
evidence-based geriatric protocols for managing common geriatric syndromes and conditions
links to specialty nursing associations
opportunities to acquire continuing education materials.
ConsultGeriRN.org is funded in part by a grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA) Inc. and The John A. Hartford Foundation.
