Tennessee RNFA Bill Stalls
Publish Date: 4/11/2012
Tennessee House bill 3138 was withdrawn from the House Commerce committee on March 21, 2012 by the sponsor because the bill did not have enough votes to pass the committee. The bill’s sponsor, Representative Cameron Sexton of Crossville, Tennessee, told the committee he will work with the Senate sponsor of the companion bill, Senator Charlotte Burks, and the interested registered nurses and other stakeholders over the summer.
AORN believes the lack of votes to pass this RNFA reimbursement bill out of committee may be due to opposition by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. Blue Cross Blue Shield has been supportive of RNFA reimbursement initiatives in a handful of other states, including most recently in Montana. AORN will work with our RNFA members to reach out to Blue Cross Blue Shield to gain a better understanding of its opposition in certain states in hopes of securing the company’s support for future RNFA reimbursement initiatives.
