New association package with pediatric group
AORN is collaborating with the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association (APSNA) to offer members the opportunity to receive benefits offered by each association.
The idea for the association package came out of the 2007 AORN Member Needs Assessment survey, according to Brian Tepp, AORN’s director of membership. “Many members stated [in the survey] that it was tough for them to belong to AORN and their specialty association, even though they found value in both. This is a solution to offer a lower cost option to meet the needs of our members.”
This association package differs from a standard AORN membership in that it does not offer voting privileges. The association package will offer free membership to AORN’s Pediatrics Specialty Assembly and will offer all other benefits of AORN membership.
Tepp said this association package with APSNA is also a great way for nursing associations to collaborate on projects and to share intellectual capital. For example, APSNA and AORN’s Pediatrics Specialty Assembly collaborated in a session at AORN’s 2009 Congress in Chicago.
“By partnering with AORN, APSNA nurses benefit by gaining a better understanding about what happens to our children in the perioperative period, and AORN nurses benefit by gaining a better understanding of the disease processes both prior to and following surgery, providing a great continuum of care for our patients,” said Margaret “Muggs” Helin, APSNA President. ”We envision our relationship with AORN to continue to grow and become stronger in the future with educational offerings that would benefit both groups, special interest groups forming partnerships, and collaborative activities furthering the care of pediatric surgical patients. The result will be that nurses from both groups will have the resources necessary to provide the highest quality nursing care possible to our patients and their families.”
AORN is in talks with other specialty nursing association to offer similar agreements to AORN members.
