New Perioperative Excellence Program extends facility benefits

AORN has replaced its Facility Package Program this year with the Perioperative Excellence Program (PEP), a new means to work toward ANCC Magnet™ Recognition while providing staff with recognized perioperative standards and guidelines.

The new program adds several features that, as a package, could prove valuable to facilities looking to train staff, build employee retention levels and work toward Magnet™ goals, said Patti Hamilton, AORN facility relations.

"Hospitals are constantly being asked to cut costs but improve patient care," Hamilton said. "What this does is help facilities increase competency levels of their staff."

Included with PEP is an eSubscription to AORN's Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices, free and discounted contact hours, subscriptions to AORN Journal, AORN Connections and AORN Management Connections, CNOR certification discounts and other benefits that are aimed at helping facilities save money while supporting staff and improving patient safety.

"Our hospital views membership in one's professional organization as an important part of practice excellence," said Paula Graling, RN, MSN, CNOR, CNS, clinical nurse specialist at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. "As a Magnet™ facility we strive to showcase tangible ways in which we provide resources to support optimal patient care."

Of the program's participants, 98% currently have or are seeking Magnet™ status. More information on PEP is available here.

"The real value is getting all your staff at the same competency levels," Hamilton said. "I've had so many hospitals say to me it increases the nurses' professionalism."

Enrollment in PEP costs $95 per nurse for a one year membership, and $85 per nurse for three years. Contact Hamilton at 800-755-2676, Ext. 373 or via E-mail at phamilton@aorn.org.

"So far hospitals love it because they feel it is really going to help build teamwork," Hamilton said.
