The AORN Foundation's new campaign "Join OuR Heroes" is one more way that AORN demonstrates its value to the perioperative nurse and its commitment to patient safety.
Created in 1991, the Foundation is the educational and charitable arm of AORN. Contributions from the members, member groups and others provide:
- Leadership development and scholarships to prepare the next generation of nurses
- Education grants for lifelong learning opportunities
- Research studies to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes
Examples of the work that the Foundation has helped to fund include the development of a "time out" protocol to assist in the reduction of surgical error and improve safety. In addition, the Foundation helps nursing students pay for their education, both at the basic and advanced levels.
There are many ways to donate. Endowed scholarships, annual fund donations and donations to the Join OuR Heroes campaign help to carry out the mission of the Foundation. Every donation is tax deductible.
What is most important is that we pass the word to our colleagues that this money is there for them. Membership dues do not go to support the activities of the Foundation so please consider making a donation today.
