AORN Grassroots

Grassroots is individuals coalescing around a specific issue using a common argument and/or message to achieve a common goal guided by a singular strategy.

AORN Government Affairs coordinates grassroots activities in the promotion of AORN's legislative priorities. One of the most effective methods for influencing public policy is direct communication between constituents and decision-makers. Through the AORN Government Affairs website, members have access to their legislators and the tools they need to effectively communicate AORN's position on legislative initiatives.

AORN has developed a grassroots network which is utilized by State Legislative Coordinators and others to support AORN's legislative priorities and initiatives at the state and federal level. AORN members can stay informed through Government Affairs communications and become involved through the following grassroots activities:

Members receive the monthly public policy newsletter AORN Advocacy Update and other updates regarding AORN legislative priorities and initiatives by email
Participate in lobby day activities
Write letters and make telephone calls to your elected officials supporting AORN's public policy positions and initiatives
Invite lawmakers to your hospital, ASC or place of employment and to be a resource for them on OR and nursing issues
Serve as a Legislative State Coordinator or Mentee
