The PNDS Benchmark Database

The PNDS Benchmark Database is a web portal for a national database that allows members to benchmark their facility's clinical outcomes and health system data against national averages for similar health care facilities. The Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) forms the foundation for the Clinical Outcomes measures. The clinical outcomes, operational, financial, and institutional data are collected in a dashboard format to enable balanced measures and comparisons.  Such comparisons permit managers to measure, monitor, and evaluate the quality and the effectiveness of care.

Benchmarking reports will be made available to PNDS Benchmark Database participants, based on a wide variety of settings. There will also be some internal benchmarking reports that may not be available in the hospital system. Individual institution data is completely confidential and is not accessible or viewable by any other facility. Only the aggregate data from multiple facilities is used for benchmarking that facilitates informed decision-making.

Participation in the PNDS Benchmark Database is free to AORN members that have met the requirements including:

Using the PNDS Benchmark Database
PNDS Benchmark Database users are participants in a group project to generate useful reporting based on current accurate data. Users are required to submit data which takes approximately 1-2 hours per month. The time spent gathering and organizing the data will depend on what systems are already in place at your facility and how many different resources are needed to get the data. This information come directly from the website.

Complete the online application form and view the required fields.
