AORN Tool Kits
AORN is committed to providing practical resources that promote patient safety, including the development of useful tool kits that address critical issues impacting perioperative nurses. These tool kits offer a wealth of resources that support awareness and education initiatives, as well as provide OR managers with sample policies and procedures that can be adapted to specific needs.
AORN's tool kits may include:
- AORN's official Guidance and Position Statements
- Contact hours (with completion of the appropriate forms)
- Awareness materials such as posters, reference cards, or fliers
- Computer slide or video training presentations
- Testimonials, case studies, and scenarios
- Sample policies/procedures and forms
- References for additional resources
The following AORN tool kits can be accessed at no cost by AORN members:
- Fire Safety - a comprehensive resource for raising awareness of surgical fires and for planning fire prevention and response strategies.
- Correct Site Surgery - tools to assist health care providers in implementing the Joint Commission Universal Protocol.
- Safe Medication Administration - resources that enhance perioperative medication competencies, expand awareness on safe medication administration, and address issues related to perioperative medication practices.
- Just Culture - provides education and resources to help you implement a just culture that fosters reporting and analysis of medical errors, leading to patient safety.
- Patient 'Hand-Off' - provides the resources to guide perioperative professionals in standardizing hand-off communications among caregivers.
- Human Factors in Health Care - This evidence-based tool kit assists with the development and implementation of a human factors program in the perioperative environment and serves as a resource to help with the research, planning, design, and execution of a team-training program. (Available to non-members until July 31, 2008)
