Gubernatorial and Legislative Recognition of Perioperative Nurse Week
AORN Public Policy
Government Affairs advocates on behalf of perioperative nurses before legislative and regulatory bodies at both the state and federal levels. Government Affairs actively promotes the Legislative Priorities established by the AORN Board of Directors to protect and enhance the profession of perioperative nursing. Additionally, Government Affairs tracks and analyzes nursing and health care laws and regulations at both the state and federal levels. Government Affairs researches and compiles existing laws and regulations relevant to the perioperative nurse's scope of practice. Information regarding workplace safety, patient safety, and health care facilities is also collected and published by the Government Affairs Department. Government Affairs coordinates and engages grassroots networks at state levels to participate in the legislative and regulatory processes. Government Affairs provides grassroots members with research support, advocacy tools and training, and access to communicating with elected officials.
