Allied Health Care Providers

Allied health care providers and support personnel contribute to optimal patient care processes in a variety of ways.

Today's complex health care environment relies upon a workforce comprised of individuals with varying degrees of education, experience, and expertise. Registered nurses exhibit professional judgment in the selection and/or assignment of actions and responsibilities that may be safely and legally delegated to competent personnel. Regardless of the act of delegation, the registered nurse retains authority and responsibility for patient care as well as supervision of the actions delegated as defined in the state nurse practice act.

Allied health care providers demonstrate competency through demonstration, testing, and participation of credentialing systems approved for their discipline. A range of functions specific to any allied health care provider or support person may be identified through job description, legal definition, or hospital policy and procedure.
