With so much going on at Surgical Conference & Expo 2015, it can be a challenge to keep track of all the details. To help, we've created a "final instructions" webpage for all conference attendees. Be sure to pack…

  • Business cards to hand out to peers, vendors, recruiters and anyone else you may be interesting in networking with.
  • Comfortable shoes  
  • Pre-printed labels to stick on your AORN Surgical Conference & Expo 2015 publications, gifts and any other material you don't want to lose. Include your name and at least one method of contact, whether email or phone.
  • Weather appropriate clothing: Bring warm layers you can take off as you enter the convention center and sessions. Gloves, scarves and hats are recommended. 
  • Confirmation e-mail, receipts, and paperwork: We suggest gathering all of your information prior to leaving and putting it all in one folder for easy access while traveling. Make sure to keep this folder in your carry-on for easy access and so you don’t misplace it.

Don’t forget to spring forward!

Daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00am. Don’t forget to set your bedside clock ahead an hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.

International Travel

    Visa Requirements
      One of the first steps on your way to attending the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo 2015 is to determine whether or not you need a visa to enter the United States. The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa.

        Driving Directions

        North-Bound Speer Boulevard
        Driving via North-bound Speer Boulevard, pass Stout Street and make your first right before Champa Street. The Convention Center Parking Garage has its own designated Right Turn lane leading into the parking garage.  The Parking Garage is designated by the Downtown Denver Parking logo.  Please visit the following link to see the designated Downtown Denver Parking Logo.

        West-Bound Champa Street
        Driving via West-bound Champa Street, just before Speer Boulevard, the parking garage will be a left-hand turn from Champa Street that merges into the garage entry drive lane from Speer Boulevard. Please use caution when yielding to traffic entering the garage from Speer Boulevard. The Parking Garage is designated by the Downtown Denver Parking logo.  Please visit the following link to see the designated Downtown Denver Parking Logo.

        Transportation To and From Denver International Airport:

        SkyRide
        Information about fares and schedules is available from RTD Denver. The route to get downtown is  Route AF.

        SuperShuttle
        SuperShuttle is offering a $6 round-trip discount to AORN attendees! Book your shuttle reservation online or call (800) 258-3826 and give the discount code AORN4.

        Taxis
        The one-way fare (airport access fee already included) to downtown Denver is $55.15. Taxis pick-up on Level 5, Island 1, outside Doors 507 through 511 (Terminal East) and Doors 506 through 510 (Terminal West).

        Getting to the Convention Center

         Shuttle buses
        Shuttle bus service is provided between official AORN hotels and the Colorado Convention Center. Bus pickup and drop off is located at Lobby B. Participating hotels will have signage in their lobby as well as fliers with further information.

         Take the Light Rail
        RTD's six light rail lines stop at 46 stations, including major hot spots like the Theatre District, Convention Center, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Pepsi Center, the 16th Street Mall, and Park Meadows Mall. Hop on board and get where you need to go fast - 55 mph, no stop lights, no traffic, fast. Find fares and schedules. 

        Ride the Bus

        Attendee Materials:

        If you received your badge materials in the mail, please proceed to the Bag Pick-Up station, located in Lobby B (for those taking the shuttle) or Lobby A/F, to get your official conference bag. Your conference bag will contain a plethora of important information and resources. You may also visit the Registration area located in Lobby C for additional registration assistance.  

        Be sure to keep your badge with you at all times while in the Convention Center for easy access to the Conference Evaluation Center (where you can submit evaluations for CE credit), the Exhibit Hall, and education session rooms.  

        Expedite Your Check-In

         Bring your registration confirmation e-mail with you to the Convention Center to speed up your check-in process. Simply scan your confirmation at the registration counter to receive your bag and check in. If you have misplaced or accidently deleted your registration confirmation e-mail, contact AORN Customer Service at (888) 266 – 7644.

        Orientation Guide

        The Surgical Conference & Expo 2015 Orientation Guide will help you throughout your week at the annual conference. In it, you will find tips from the experts on preparing and registering, what to bring, things you don't want to miss and much more! This is something you'll want to read cover-to-cover before you travel to Denver.

        First-Time Attendee Orientation

        The First-Time Orientation will be held on Sunday, March 8, from 6:45 - 7:45am, in Mile High Ballroom 3-4. Come learn details on how to get the most out of your Conference experience and connect with mentors who can answer all your questions. If you didn’t sign up for the Orientation when you registered for the conference, email AORN Customer Service or call (800) 755-2676 and they can update your registration to include the Orientation.

        Get Involved with the Business of AORN

        Delegates are any voting members in good standing who attend Surgical Conference & Expo 2015. If you are an eligible, voting member of AORN and not serving as a Chapter Delegate or Delegate Chair, you will be automatically designated as a Delegate and may attend all business meetings and vote.

        Plan Your Schedule with our Mobile Planner

        Take advantage of our new Surgical Conference & Expo mobile site to plan your conference schedule. You can go directly to the mobile planner using any desktop computer or mobile device, or download the app from our website. 

        Content is updated often – please refresh the mobile planner as often as possible to ensure that you have the latest information!  A refresh button is located in the menu bar on the left side of the mobile planner.

        ConKerr Cancer’s pillowcase project “A Case for Smiles”

        AORN and the Pediatric Specialty Assembly would like to thank members in advance for participating in this year’s ConKerr Cancer’s pillowcase project “A Case for Smiles”.

        Directions for sewing pillowcases can be obtained here. During the Surgical Conference & Expo 2015, there will be a bin available for members to drop off pillowcases near the Attendee Services structure. To comply with hospitals, all pillowcases should be freshly laundered and secured inside of a re-sealable plastic bag.

        AORN Integrated Health Practices (IHP) Specialty Assembly Serenity Room

        The IHP Specialty Assembly Serenity Room has returned! The IHP SA has sponsored a Serenity Room at AORN Conferences in past years going back to 10 years ago. Make plans to visit the Serenity Room in Room 703.

        The IHP SA is dedicating this year’s Serenity Room to all Military and Veterans past and present. All AORN members are welcome to come and walk a labyrinth or simply relax and recoup as there will also be soft relaxing music and aromatherapy.

        Education Session Handouts

        To download your handouts, visit the Surgical Conference & Expo Mobile Planner. If you have already downloaded the mobile planner, you will need to refresh the application. When prompted for the password, please enter denver (not case sensitive). 

        Real Time Education Session Polling

        Many education sessions will have audience polling that will allow you to ask questions and respond to polls in real time throughout the session using your mobile device. Be sure to download the Surgical Conference & Expo Mobile Planner and click on the session that you are attending to participate in session polling.

        Posters – Lobbies A & F

        Over 200 posters will be displayed at the Annual Conference. More information can be found in the Poster Sessions Guidebook you receive in your attendee bag.

        Access the virtual poster gallery here. Visit often as additional posters are continually added. All attendees are able to review these posters virtually and earn contact hours by completing the evaluations. Evaluations must be completed by April 10.

        AORN Education Hub – Mile High 1

        More repeat sessions will be available this year to view in our Education Hub. Bring your coffee and relax while learning. The Education Hub in Mile High Ballroom 1 is bigger and better for this year's annual conference.

        Stop by if a session room is full or if you missed a session you wanted to hear. Use our headphones or bring your own and select from eight sessions playing at the same time. You may earn contact hours for one session per time frame.

        Career Center Coaching Sessions – Room 720

        Dr. Phyllis Quinlan, RN-Bc, PhD and Career Coach, will be leading several small group sessions on Monday and Tuesday discussing a variety of topics that include resume writing, networking and personal brand.

        Flip the Session: An Innovative Approach to Content Delivery

        You spoke. We listened. You want more time for questions!  

        This innovative learning format allows attendees to process information. Prior to the conference you will listen to the lecture via webinar (you may attend the live webinar or listen to the recording) to learn about an important topic. In some instances, you will be challenged to consider aspects of the discussion to prepare for the live session at the conference.

        During these sessions, topics will be discussed and debated. You and your peers will walk away with some ideas for dealing with the issue or confirmation that you're on the right track. Each BUZZ session will be facilitated by an expert on the topic.

        Candidate Voting

        Officers, Board of Directors, and the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee will be elected via electronic ballot by all eligible voting members. The online electronic ballot is available on the AORN Home Page, here. There will also be voting booths available on the Level 3 Central Concourse, Sunday through Tuesday.

        Voting closes March 10, 2015 (midnight). 

        AORN Foundation Gold Rush Party
