Credentialing

AORN strongly believes in lifelong learning and continuing education. These values are shared by the more than 35,000 perioperative nurses who hold the CNOR® and other perioperative nursing credentials like the CSSM®, CNS-CP® and CRNFA®.

CNOR

More than 35,000 perioperative nurses currently hold the  CNOR credential. Research shows that certified nurses have greater job satisfaction, and are more confident in their practice. Hospitals and institutions around the world support the  CNOR program not only because it distinguishes them as an employer of choice, but also because they know a certified nursing workforce is correlated with decreases in negative patient outcomes.

CSSM

The  Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) certification program is for perioperative leaders interested in validating their managerial knowledge and skills.  CSSM certification validates the achievement of the baccalaureate-prepared manager who demonstrates current proficiency as an administrator in the perioperative (pre-, intra-, and post-operative) setting. CCI delivers the CSSM exam to recognize the important role managers have in directing staff, programs and budgets in delivering safe patient care. The purpose of the CSSM exam is to provide recognition for the important and distinct role of surgical services managers.

CNS-CP

CCI offers the  Clinical Nurse Specialist Perioperative Certification Exam (CNS-CP) for masters-prepared Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS). Specialty certification helps bridge the gap between initial certification as an APRN and specialty practice. The  CNS-CP credential validates perioperative competency at an advanced practice level, positions the CNS for future developments in advanced practice, and meets Consensus Model guidelines.

AORN has developed an online application that incorporates the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) changes.
