Mississippi Considers Recording All Surgical Procedures

Publish Date: February 27, 2012

The Mississippi legislature is considering House Bill 1006, which would require the entirety of all surgical procedures performed by physicians or other health care providers be recorded. The video recordings would also be required to be maintained by the physician, other health care provider, or institution in which the procedure is performed for at least four years from the date of the procedure. The patient or the patient’s representative would also be able to request a copy of the video recording.

HB1006 has been referred to the House Public Health and Human Services Committee and the Judiciary A Committee. AORN’s government affairs department will track this bill and report on any movement.
