On November 19, AORN joined 59 other members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) to send a letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees requesting at least $314.472 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce and Development Programs and at least $200.782 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research for Fiscal Year 2022.
Also on November 19, the NCC released a statement commending the House of Representatives for including provisions for nursing education and practice in their recently passed Build Back Better Act (H.R. 5376). The bill provides support for nursing education pathways, investments for nurses and Advanced Practice Nurses working in Underserved Areas, and includes key provisions from the Momnibus Act, including funding to grow and diversify the nursing workforce in maternal and perinatal health and funding for Maternal Mental Health Equity grant programs. The NCC is urging the Senate to include these priorities in their version of the Build Back Better Act.
