Linda Groah, CEO and Executive Director

Linda Groah, MSN, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN

Linda Groah has been the CEO/executive director of AORN since March 2007. A veteran perioperative nursing executive, Linda has devoted her career to perioperative nursing practice, education, and executive management. Her previous professional positions include international healthcare consultation, chief operating officer of Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, CA, nurse executive for Kaiser Foundation Hospital-San Francisco and Kaiser Foundation Hospital-South San Francisco, CA; director of nursing OR-PACU-Surgery Center at the University of California San Francisco Hospitals and Clinics; and OR director at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, GA.

Awarded AORN’s Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing in 1989, Linda was inducted in 2000 as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. In 2005, she received Nursing Spectrum magazine’s California and US Nursing Excellence Award for Leadership. In 2006, she was named one of San Francisco’s 100 most influential women in business. In 2012, Becker’s named Linda as one of the Ten Leaders in Clinical Quality and, in 2013, Beckers named her among the Top 50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety.


Terry Avitable

Terry Avitable MSN, RN, CNOR

Terry Avitable MSN, RN, CNOR, is Vice President of AORN, Inc., in charge of Pfiedler Education, a division of AORN. She oversees the planning, development, sales and implementation of educational products and services for the organization’s partners in the medical industry. With AORN since 2012, Terry’s focus is on the advancement of medical education and innovation in medical technology to support the delivery of safe patient care.

A perioperative nurse for 25 years, Terry has served as an ANCC accreditation program appraiser, director for collaborative learning and career enrichment for Cross Country University and as director of education for Keiser College. Terry earned her MSN from Florida Atlantic University and a BSN from Keiser University.


Renae Battié, MN, RN, CNOR

Renae Battié, MN, RN, CNOR

Renae Battié, MN, RN, CNOR joined AORN in 2019 as Vice President of Nursing to lead and manage the division of nursing which includes the Nursing Education, Nursing Practice, and Ambulatory Surgery Departments. In her role, she is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing educational products and services designed to meet the current and future needs of AORN’s members and customers.

Renae’s nursing career spans 40 years with roles as staff nurse, educator and leader. She was most recently division vice-president, perioperative services for CHI Health in Nebraska/Iowa where she was responsible for driving growth and development of perioperative services across 16 hospitals. Over the course of her career, Renae has been highly engaged with AORN on the national level, and served the association as a board member, vice president and as president for the 2015-2016 term.

James Cousin, CFO

James Cousin, MBA, CPA

James Cousin is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Diversity Officer. He’s been with the association since 2001. In this capacity, James oversees accounting, the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo (top 150 national convention in the United States), HR, business opportunities, and facilities management. As the Chief Diversity Officer he is responsible for providing leadership and direction for AORN’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy. He has More than 32 years of experience in finance and accounting in various industries: healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, oil & gas and a Big 4 CPA firm. James earned an MBA from the University of Colorado (executive MBA program) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from California State University, Long Beach. He holds an active CPA license from the state of California. James is board member on multiple organizations, including Delta Dental of Colorado, Denver Scholarship Foundation and Vectra Bank Advisory Board.


Maureen Girard, MBA, BSN

Maureen Girard, MBA, BSN

Maureen Girard, MBA, BSN, joined AORN in March, 2020 as Vice President of Sales, Medical Products and Solutions. She is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all aspects of industry sales for AORN’s enterprise which includes the subsidiary, Outpatient Surgery Magazine. In her role, Maureen leads business development, strategic alliances and directly manages the industry-facing sales teams.

Maureen came to AORN from 14 years with Cardinal Health where she served in various executive roles, most recently as Vice President Medical Products Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA). In this position, she managed a portfolio of medical products, and distributor and vendor relationships while building teams across EMEA to support the business development strategy. Her experience includes working at a leading GPO and, as a nurse, working in multiple units including perioperative care.

Maureen earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Aurora University in Aurora, IL, an MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management, Evanston, IL, and received her certification as an executive coach from Insead, Fontainebleau France.
