2017 Chapter Excellence Award

This web page has all the information and links you need to submit your 2017 Chapter Excellence Award applications. There are six (6) steps to complete for your award submission. The presentation time frame is July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. If you have questions, contact Deb Warren.

Important Information

  • The application submission deadline has been extended to December 31, 2016.
  • Time frame for all chapters will be July 1, 2015–June 30, 2016. Use your chapter’s fiscal year as near to this as possible.
  • All submissions received will be confidential.
  • A new award application must be submitted and completed each year. No award submissions will be kept on file for consideration in subsequent years.
  • Applications must be typed. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
  • Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
  • In each size category (above), chapters with first, second, and third place scores will receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards respectively.
  • The top scoring Gold chapter will be selected as Chapter of the Year.
  • A chapter may only be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year award every three years.

Application Instructions

Step 1

Decide on your Chapter's size.

  • Small: 0–50 members
  • Medium: 51–150 members
  • Intermediate: 151–300 members
  • Large: 301+ members

Step 2

Complete Sections A and B of the application.

Step 3

Complete Section A-1 of the application.

Step 5

Submit a PowerPoint presentation to support your chosen Step 4, Section C options.

PowerPoint format restrictions include:

  • A maximum six (6) slides per each Step 4, Section C option.
  • The last one (1) or two (2) slides, per option, must contain an overall summary of the presentation. Summary slides should follow order of option (ie, Option 1, Option 3).
    Suggestion: Provide summary key points in a numbered or bulleted format.
  • Time limit is no more than five (5) minutes.
  • No music is allowed.
  • Slides must reflect the options’ essay portions of the application (ie, photos of the chapter helping at a local food bank would support Option 1: Community Involvement).

Submissions must include:

  • One (1) hard copy of Sections A/B
  • One (1) hard copy of Section A-1
  • One (1) hard copy of two (2) option essays under Section C
  • One (1) Flash Drive containing Sections A/B, A-1, Section C options, and PowerPoint presentation

Deadline: Application submission must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2016.

  • Selection Process

    Chapter award submissions will be judged. When selecting recipients of the awards, depending on the number of submissions and scores, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards may not all be awarded in each chapter category size.

    Chapter Excellence Award recipients will be notified prior to the 2017 AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo. The Chapter of the Year recipient will NOT be notified prior to Expo.

  • Judging Criteria

    Chapter submissions will be judged by the AORN Membership Committee using criteria such as, but not limited to the following.

    • Overall Completeness and Clarity of Application: Chapter information, chapter profile, PowerPoint presentation
    • Description of Presentation Content: Concise summary of content options, presentation goals and objectives, impact/outcomes of presentation content
    • Content Support: Adequately supports the application essay, presented in a creative format, suitable to the nature of the entry, PowerPoint slides are neat, concise, and easily readable
  • Awards Recognition

    ALL Chapters Submitting Applications

    • Chapter group photo at the AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo
    • Certificate of Appreciation from Awards Committee to all non-recipient chapters

    Bronze, Silver, and Gold Chapter Recognition in All Size Categories

    • Award presentation at AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo
    • Recognition of award on AORN Website and other AORN publications

    Chapter of the Year Recognition

    • Award presentation at AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo
    • Recognition of award on the AORN Website and other AORN publications
    • Complimentary chapter visit by an AORN Board member
