The course also helps ASCs fulfill regulatory requirements of the ASC Infection Control Surveyor Worksheet, including the initiation and administration of an Infection Control Program.

Maintain a Compliant Infection Control Program

The revamped course offers content that aligns with the most updated AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, the latest accreditation requirements, additional content that guides the initiation and administration of an Infection Control Program, and includes surveyor insights for each module. The course also features enhanced visuals with demonstration videos and a fresh posttest with explanations for comprehensive learning. 

The five-module course focuses on:

  1. Infection Control Program: The development, implementation, and monitoring of a compliant infection control program
  2. Hand Hygiene: Identifying how pathogens are transmitted, implementing mitigation strategies, and monitoring for hand hygiene compliance
  3. Injection Practices: Identifying the safety practices related to medication and sharps safety
  4. Single-Use Devices, Sterilization, and High-Level Disinfection: Understanding the requirements for single-use devices, sterilization, and high-level disinfection
  5. Environmental Infection Control: Evaluating and mitigating the risk of microorganism contamination in the ASC.

In addition to refreshed didactic content, the course now includes practical tools and templates for immediate implementation: Infection Control Log, Infection Occurrence Data Sheet, Infection Prevention Staff Training Checklist, Infection Preventionist Job Description, Hand Hygiene Audit Tool, Hand Hygiene Gap Analysis Tool, Sharps Safety Audit Tool, and Sharps Safety Gap Analysis Tool.

Course Objectives

  • Define the regulatory and accreditation requirements of an infection control program in an ASC.
  • Define the components of an effective hand hygiene program.
  • Identify safe practices related to the administration of injectable medications.
  • Describe the requirements for reprocessing single-use devices.
  • Define the processes included in sterilization and high-level disinfection.
  • Define environmental infection control and practices.

Contact Hours

Participants receive 7.0 Contact Hours after completion of the course and evaluation.

AEU and IPCH

This program is approved for up to 7.0 hours of AEUs and up to 7.0 hours of IPCHs by BASC Provider #0102.

HSPA

This program will award 3.0 CE HSPA approval number: AORN 241901.

Course Access

The learner will have six months from the time of first course launch to complete the course.
