7 Ways to Sail the Hall Like a Pro

One of the top reasons to attend a conference is to find clinical solutions specific to your role, practice area, and your facility. In our Global Surgical Conference & Expo Exhibit Hall, you‘ll have access to free presentations and CE credits, recruiters from the top health systems and education institutions, simulations, and lots of new product demonstrations. The exhibit hall is 345,000 square feet of perioperative amazingness and will feature over 500 exhibitors. But where do you start? Here are seven ways to navigate it all like a pro:

1. Make a plan – walking into a large exhibit hall can be overwhelming.

Decide ahead of time which exhibits will benefit you and your team most and then map it out by day. It will make all the difference to know how you’re going to spend your day. Keep it open enough to make spur-of-the moment changes though. Check out the list of exhibitors and this Boston Convention & Exhibition Center map to start planning today.

2. Pack comfortable shoes.

Whether you’re tracking steps for the AORN Foundation’s Steps to Health Challenge or just making your way around the exhibit hall’s 345,000 square feet, you’ll want to be comfortable. Also, compression socks are not just for the OR. Plan to pack a few pairs to provide your feet with that much-needed relief. Be sure to take breaks and drink plenty of water, too.

3. Attend the Exhibit Hall opening reception – on Sunday, April 2 from 4 – 6pm.

Kick-off the exhibit hall festivities and join your perioperative peers for prizes, food, and fun. It’s a great place to meet up with your colleagues, connect with some of the 500 exhibitors, and get the lay of land to make navigating the next two days as efficient as possible.

4. Educate yourself – make the most of your exhibit floor time to fulfill some of your CE requirements.

Numerous exhibitors will be offering contact hours at their booths. Simulation activities will focus on real-world scenarios; get hands-on training at ‘Positioning Considerations’ (Booth 2657) and check out simulation scenarios on a Mass Casualty Exercise (Booth 2400) and Local Anesthesia Toxicity: A Potential for Cardiac Arrest (Booth 2839). Participation in these activities is limited. See the conference app for activity dates and times.

5. Don’t be shy – as approaching a booth can be intimidating.

It can feel a bit like you're walking into someone’s living room. Allow the salesperson to approach you, compliment him or her on the company's products and ask questions like, "Can you show me how this works?" From there, just let the conversation flow naturally and make sure your questions get answered as it’s helpful to have face time with an exhibiting company or organization when making decisions on potential OR products.

6. Sail the Hall – and win prizes with our conference app game.

Cruise through the exhibit hall and discover new products for your team, hot jobs, and CE credits. Collect points from participating exhibitors for a chance to win prizes valued up to $500. Download the AORN 2017 conference app to play.

7. Visit AORN Central – and find out what’s new at AORN.

You’ll also be able to collect 200 points for Sail the Hall, find educational solutions for your entire team, earn free CEs, and get your career questions answered by Career Coach, Phyllis Quinlan, PhD, RN-BC. Be sure to check out the conference program for a full AORN Central demo schedule.

Follow these seven tips and you’re sure to return home more educated, more inspired, and even more proud of being a perioperative nurse – if that’s possible. We look forward to seeing you in Boston soon.
