Colonel Nicole Malachowski has earned a list of accolades: mission-ready fighter pilot, squadron commander, first female Thunderbird pilot in the U.S. Air Force, White House Fellow, advisor to the First Lady of the United States, and more. Her 21-year Air Force career ended, though, when a tick-borne illness rendered her unable to speak or walk for 10 months.

She inspired the crowd at yesterday’s AORN Foundation General Session on Tuesday afternoon in the Grand Ballroom with her story and reminded the crowd to harness the headwinds and to remember that no one wants a scripted life, and she knows firsthand.
