Be an active part of the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo by volunteering to help the conference run smoothly while keeping registration costs down. AORN would not be able to present this conference without the help of our many and generous volunteers.
Moderators have the opportunity to set the climate and make a session the best it can be. Speakers rely on and appreciate Moderators, and these assignments are highly visible and important. Each session requires a Moderator who will welcome the audience, make opening, housekeeping, and closing remarks, start and end the presentation on time, introduce the speaker(s), and assist with the Q&A period at the end of the session. All Moderators must be registered for the event and may receive contact hours for any education sessions at which they assist.
Session Assistants help control room and traffic flow and noise, and assist the speakers and audience as needed. Six to 10 session assistants are required per session, depending on room size. All Session Assistants must be registered for the event and they may receive contact hours for education sessions at which they assist.
Positioning Simulation Station Assistants
Positioning Simulation Station Assistants are responsible for demonstrating correct patient positioning on and with equipment, including OR tables and accessories, and/or as a patient. The positioning stations will be supine, prone, lithotomy, lateral, and bariatric equipment. Assignments are in the Exhibit Hall and scheduled during Exhibit Hall hours. All Assistants are required to complete a short quiz related to the AORN Guidelines to demonstrate education/experience for this activity and sign a letter agreement (see below example).
Host Volunteers are typically locals from and around the host city, but anyone registered for the event may assist. Host Volunteers maintain visibility in high traffic areas and provide information and assistance, including welcoming attendees, navigating the convention center, how to access and use conference resources, how/where to evaluate sessions, using the conference app, etc. Host Volunteers may also step up and volunteer as Moderators and Session Assistants to fill empty slots during the conference.
