This course is designed to provide the perioperative nurse with the knowledge, workflows, and clinical skills necessary to transition to a sterile field or scrub role.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe sterile technique and its application to the scrub/ sterile field role.
  2. Identify key elements of the sterile field.
  3. Describe how to set up and prepare for a surgical procedure.
  4. Explain the scrub/ sterile field role and how it coordinates with the circulating role and the roles of other perioperative team members.
  5. Describe how to manage the sterile field during a procedure.
