New Scope Links to Image-Guidance Systems

New Scope Links to Image-Guidance Systems
Facilities that do neurosurgery, ENT and spine surgery with image-guidance systems may be able to make preparation and procedures more efficient with the Leica M500 OH3. Perioperative setup is easy. An auto-balance system balances all six axes with two pushes of a button. The system's overhead design and low weight (around 266 kg.) allow for easy positioning and mobility. The Leica Intelligent Set-Up System lets you store up to eight customized configurations. During the procedure, when combined with an Image Guidance System computer, the stand's robotic capability lets the M500 OH3 ($220,000 to $250,000) follow the surgeon's hand instruments.

Spill solutions
You may be able to make messy fluid cleanup easier with three new products from Health Care Logistics, Inc., Absorbent Pads, Absorbent Powder and the Spill Clean-Up Kit. Use the Absorbent Pads to wipe up spilled fluids. They can absorb 350 mL of fluid into a safe infection-contained gel. The pads are available in packages of 50. The Absorbent Powder converts fluid into a gel and also reduces odor, the company says. Each bottle contains 250 grams of powder; 10 grams of powder will absorb 1 liter of water or 0.9% saline. The Spill Clean-Up Kit contains everything you need to efficiently dispose of blood or other bodily fluids, the company says.

Faster scope reprocessing
Now you can reprocess endoscopes in an automatic endoscope reprocessor in just five minutes with Cidex OPA Solution from Advanced Sterilization Products. The FDA recently approved the change. Your reprocessor must heat the solution to a minimum of 25'C in order to use the new faster time; most recent models do so. You can still use the solution for manual processing and in automatic endoscope reprocessors that cannot maintain a temperature of 25'C, but the soaking time needs to be 12 minutes rather than five.
