Countertop Sterilizer

Countertop Sterilizer Gentle on Your Devices
A new countertop sterilization system from Steris promises to be more productive while being gentler on your devices. The V-PRO 60 Low Temperature Sterilization System uses a 59% hydrogen peroxide solution in all of its sterilization cycles, making it more compatible with a wider range of devices, including those that are moisture- and heat-sensitive. The compact system features 3 cycles for sterilization of single-, dual- and triple-channel stainless steel devices; single- and dual-channel surgical flexible endoscopes with accessories; and non-lumened devices. The sterilizer doesn't use plasma, which can harm surface layers of sterilized devices, and is also gentle on the environment, with the sterilant broken down into water and oxygen at the end of the cycle.

Behind Colon Folds

See Behind Colon Folds
GI physicians are increasingly interested in seeing behind colon folds to boost the detection rates of precancerous polyps they might have otherwise missed. The Endocuff from Medivators offers a simple solution: A single-use device, it fits on the end of a standard colonoscope in order to hold colon folds open during extubation, letting physicians see more mucosas for easier polyp identification. The device can also anchor the scope against the colon wall for improved control during screenings. Medivators says a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology showed the Endocuff increased adenoma detection rates by 86% compared with conventional screenings, and was especially useful in the sigmoid and cecum regions, typically hard-to-assess areas of the colon.

High-Def Colonoscope

A High-Def Colonoscope
Recent advances in gastrointestinal technologies have focused on enhanced imaging to improve polyp detection rates during colonoscopy screenings. Pentax Medical has joined the movement with the i10 Series HD+ Endoscopes, instruments designed to provide physicians with crisp, clear views of the GI tract with added maneuverability and comfort. A 140-degree field of view and close-focus imaging upgrade let physicians zoom to within 2 mm of the mucosa for detailed examination in high magnification. The scopes also feature larger instrument channels (3.8 mm), slimmer outer diameters (13.2 mm) and shorter bending sections than the company's previous generation of scopes. Pentax says the new designs are lighter and have upgraded ergonomic controls.

Sinusitis Treatment

Drug-Free Sinusitis Treatment
The Vent-Os Sinus Dilation System provides a sinusitis solution that's simpler, easier for patients to tolerate and better suited to office-based practices than repeated antibiotic or steroid doses or balloon sinuplasty's force and pressure. A rice-sized capsule inserted into the sinus passage under local anesthesia absorbs mucosal fluid and expands over the course of an hour to gradually open blocked sinuses before its removal.

Robotic Surgery

Simulator Lets Surgeons Practice Robotic Surgery Skills
3D Systems has created the first hands-on, complete procedural training simulator for robotic surgery to prepare surgeons for the expanding field of robotic surgery. The Simbionix RobotiX Mentor lets surgeons of different levels and specialties train for everything from basic skills and suturing to complete robotic procedures. The company says it was developed with the help of those in the medical community, and its 3D HD stereoscopic personal display features lifelike graphics. It can also work with the company's online simulator management system, MentorLearn, which allows trainers to customize curriculum and set goals.

ENT Procedures

Small Laryngoscope Makes More ENT Procedures Possible
The ENT-7000 video laryngoscope from Vision-Sciences features the smallest diameter insertion tube available, giving patients maximum comfort and physicians high-performance imaging. The company says the 2.4 mm laryngoscope means ear, nose and throat physicians can treat a more complete range of patients. The laryngoscope also has high-resolution CCD-based imaging, which gives you sharp visualization for procedures. The ENT-7000 is compatible with the 7000 Series Vision System, an all-in-one portable endoscopy-imaging platform that allows for frame-by-frame review and image comparison.
