Pre-Positioning Patients Saves Time
In the assembly-line nature of cataract surgery, every minute matters. Our RNs use a yardstick to make sure cataract surgery patients' stretchers are just the right height — usually between 32 and 36 inches, depending on the surgeon — before we wheel them into the OR. So instead of spending 3 or 4 minutes getting the patient into the right position, our OR staff can get right to work. We do as many as 30 cataract procedures a day, so the time we save really adds up.
