RING REMOVAL
Quick and Easy Way to Remove a Patient’s Ring
To remove stubborn rings that may have been on wedded fingers for 25 years or more, place a rubber tourniquet under the ring until you can grasp both sides of the tourniquet at once. Apply water-based lubricant generously around the finger. In a circular motion, turn the tourniquet around the finger and begin to remove as you gently bring the ring toward the fingertip. This will displace any edema and tissue that may have developed around the finger. Unless the bone itself has displaced, this ring-removal method is absolutely foolproof. It saves a lot of awkward cuts and your patients will love you for saving that very sentimental piece of jewelry.
